Today You Shall Be With Me in Paradise

"And he said to him, 'Truly, I say to you today you will be with me in Paradise.'"
~Luke 32:43 (ESV)

I decided to talk about the thief that was next to Jesus when he was crucified because of a song I heard at a concert (My sister at Mustard Seed Faith posted about it here). The song was "Thief" by Third Day. In the song he sings from the viewpoint of the thief on the cross next to Jesus when he was crucified. It reminded me of a quote from Spurgeon.

As Christ is saying these words he is at his lowest ebb. He has been mocked and whipped. He is about to utter the words, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" (Mathew 27:46) God the Father has hidden his face from the Son. Yet, Jesus is still fully God. Only God has the power to save.

Jesus still has the power to save even during his death throes. He saves a man who's sins he is dying for at that moment. How amazing is the Lord God!

"If a dying Saviour saved the thief, my argument is that he can do even more now that he lives and reigns."
~Charles Spurgeon from "Christ's Words from the Cross"

Soli Deo Gloria!
